1949 - Our Indigenous servicemen get the right to vote
1962 - All Aboriginal people have federal voting rights

1967 - AUSTRALIAN REFERENDUM
1971 - Neville Bonner appointed to Parliament (Senator)
1972 - Aboriginal Tent Embassy pitched outside Parliament House
1973 - Indigenous people elect 41 members of the National Aboriginal Consultative committee
This committee was replaced by the National Aboriginal Conference some years later but was important at the time
1975 - Racial Discrimination Act 1975 passed, title returned to Gurindji people
1984 - Enrolment and voting made compulsory for Indigenous Australians
1985 - Uluru is handed back to its Traditional Owners
1995 - The Australian Government officially recognises the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags
1992 - Mabo decision recognises native title
1997 - Bringing Them Home report released - investigation into the Stolen Generation
1998 - National Sorry Day is commemorated for the first time (26 May)
2000 - Corroboree 2000
2001 - Carol Martin becomes the first Indigenous woman elected to a State Parliament (WA)
2004 - a Memorial to the Stolen Generations is established at Canberra
2008 - Prime Minister Kevin Rudd formally apologises to the Stolen Generations
